habits die hard

s-p-o-i-l-e-d. ugg. (please also notice the pristine backyard)

confessions:
i hate to cook (is that normal?), and have been doing absolutely none of it lately... (forgot to find a french chef boyfriend along the way)
told someone for the first time to stop being rude to me and felt bad about it for HOURS, hours?!

putting off schoolwork until the last possible second (and sometimes later than the last possible second which i guess technically means it's late...)
i may or may not really believe our house has a little spirit action going on!
ok, i feel better.
currently perched on the edge of our bed stealing internet from who knows where. the ghost knocked some trees down, narrowly missing the house but taking down the cable lines. (maybe it doesn't like TV). living without television and internet is hard. i wish i had the willpower to not bring the TV back... habits die hard. don't judge me- i need my reality tv to unwind
yikes. our ghostie is kinda nice- it spared the new car (jackson thankfully wasn't home!)

ghostly events at our house:
-nicholas spontaneously being locked in the bedroom (the lock malfunctioned? i think not.)
-friends having nightmares and/or hearing thumping sounds in the night when they sleep in the guestroom
-giant trees "blown" over. psh.

;)

had the best time at robyn y bobby's new casa - we totally want one now!

back to painting and running and watching julie&julia (my next blog is going to be food to cook when you loathe cooking- stay tuned).

Big timing!

Big News! Jackson got the job he wanted! Small company, working from home, sales position- he's elated and I am so proud!

We are celebrating this weekend! (after our yard sale- I can't wait to meet all of the crazy yard sale addicts).

Congratulations, engineer. ;)

Savant Drawings

Inspiring.

Stephen Wiltshire has drawn London (at age 11!), Rome and Toyko from memory after only short helicopter rides above the cities. He draws everything from memory, including the number of windows on the buildings.

mutts

adopt a dog.
there are thousands of dogs at shelters killed everyday.
i love all of our friend's purebred dogs, but there are dogs that are just as sweet, loving and fun in every shelter in every city.
find a purebred at a local shelter, or a rescue group if you feel you need a specific breed.

interpretation please

My dreams usually involve things like elephants swimming in lava or flying cars... but last night there were clones!

Summary: I "ordered" too many Jacksons and they weren't actual clones but i guess all just identical people that looked like him? Anyway, they arrived on these buses so a few of his friends and I lined them all up to test and see who the "real" Jackson was. We started playing a song he wrote to see if he could play it and he did but got a few parts wrong so we started doing another test- but then someone "evil" was showing up at the house so everyone had to go hide! Later on a fake Jackson showed up and tried to pretend he was the real one... apparently i was trying to find the real Jackson back by tasting some bean soup i had cooked him in?! Was i a witch??

This dream also involved: donuts, bagels, evil fashion designers, my brother, and giant lawn mowers.

Clearly, i have an irrational fear of clones!

so entertaining :)

Progress

All our progress is an unfolding like the vegetable bud, you have first an instinct, then an opinion, then a knowledge, as the plant has root, bud and fruit. Trust the instinct to the end, though you can render no reason. It is vain to hurry it. By trusting it to the end, it shall ripen into truth and you shall know why you believe. -Emerson

this time around

jackson and I have been trying our best to recall what we did last year for our 3rd anniversary....to no avail. sad, but true. (poor-graduate students don't go out to fancy dinners, can you tell??)
i'm sure whatever it was, we had fun :)

(this year, we had sushi, the largest piece of chocolate cake in birmingham, and laughed. official celebration via the beach to follow this summer.)
ATTN: jackson is now a "real" engineer. for real. he will now be wearing his hard-hat at all times. so proud of him.

the back porch redo is almost complete, and dining and lounging outside is now much more fun. we still have the classic butterfly chair which needs a new cover. so 70's- i love those!

i have been pure barre-ing lately, and it has been amazing. basically, a mix of pilates, yoga and ballet but way more ass-kicking! wish i could afford the classes- so i do the DVD's in my living room with lola and mia. my work-out club.

lately:
nearly finished with another semester (with a 4.0 to boot)
working diligently on lola's training- (for anyone who thinks we let her get away with everything- we don't- and we want her to have proper manners)
praying, hard for the best opportunities for my engineer
planning a ladies vacation!!!
going blonde-ish a la manana!
ordered this after hearing so much uproar over it's amazing powers. should have done so sooner!

Family Wagon

Big weekend! For the last 6 months Jackson and I have just been waiting for one of our vehicles to die. It happened. RIP Donna the Mazda. We already knew what we were going to replace her with :)

2009 Subaru Forester
Can't wait to plan our first road trip and camping weekend! It fits all of us: Moi, Jackson, Lola and Mia.

Suzani

I came home from an uneventful trip to my favorite thrift shop and saw a burlap sack laying by the door. I was so confused and kicked it around trying to read the address (um, wrong house?) but suddenly realized what it was! I have never seen a package wrapped so primitively!

Our mailman thinks we are strange.

sewn and sealed

the other side

it's HUGE. apparently i didn't pay attention to the measurements.
for now, it stinks and is airing out on the sleeping porch until i can employ (convince) Jackson to hang it for moi ;)

Longest Married

Sweetest ever: The longest married couple (85 years....85 years people!) Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher are going to reveal the secrets of love via twitter. I'm not even sure what I would ask- other than, do you even know what twitter is? I can only imagine someone is tweeting on their behalf!

They will be answering questions on, of course, February 14th:

after school special

our holiday mantel- can't believe it's the new year. where have i been!?

it's hard to know what kind of teacher i am going to be- everyone is my program is so supportive and kind- i dress like a journalist (i am told)- and FYI learning a new career in one year is no less than life-altering. hard to imagine myself running a classroom- but i am on my way!

so inspired lately by Sister Mary Corita- she was so ahead of her time.I love the way she incorporates other works- lots of e.e. cummings and walt whitman

Lately, in our house:

- revamping the back porch (Jackson's participation not required- AKA don't consult him before you buy a patio set)
- kitchen chalkboard configuration (almost done)!
- rude neighbors posting rude signs
- pilates - never knew how much calm and relaxation i could find though this (cancels out rude neighbors)
- keeping friends close to our hearts as they travel to fight for our country
- snuggling with a little lovey dovey puppy
-looking forward to trying out the Diana F+ in the warm and sunny weather (can you hear me up there??)
- waiting impatiently for the newest joanna newsom as my anthem for Spring!

i feel more blogging coming :)
